Medication Use in Fragile X Syndrome
Rodabe N. Amaria, B.S., Lacey L. Billeisen
& Randi Hagerman, M.D.

Few studies of medication usage to help manage the hyperarousal, anxiety and mood lability associated with fragile X syndrome (FXS) have been carried out. This report presents a survey of medication usage in children and adolescents as well as adults with FXS. While the usage of stimulant medication is high in children and adolescents, stimulants are used less commonly in adults and SSRIs usage increases. Medication combinations such as a stimulant, SSRI or alpha-agonist often work to treat the variety of behavioral problems coupled with FXS.
