The History Behind the Use of Antipsychotic
Medications in Persons With Intellectual Disability: Part I Antipsychotic medications have a long history of use, overuse, and misuse in persons with intellectual disabilities. This article reviews the history of the use of antipsychotic medication from the introduction of first generation antipsychotics (FGAs) in 1953 to the advent of second generation antipsychotics (SGAs).
