STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD) experience the full range of psychiatric disorders. Because of cognitive, developmental, and neurological disabilities, the diagnosis and treatment of persons with ID/DD requires clinical skills drawn from psychiatry and neurology that also synthesizes cultural, sociological and psychological perspectives. MH/DD is the first and only journal exclusively devoted to the mental health needs of this population, and it will cover all mental health aspects of diagnosis, treatment, and community supports for persons with ID/DD. The journal will provide research reports, reviews, case studies, treatment outcome studies, mental health policy reports, drug information updates, teaching guides, clinical assessment tools and commentary on key mental health topics with the aim of tying research findings to practice. Topics related to pharmacotherapy, psychotherapeutic techniques, diagnostic issues, education, mental health policy, and behavioral interventions will be strongly represented. Areas requiring further research will be highlighted, and diverse perspectives on critical issues of clinical importance will be encouraged.

EDITORIAL POLICY

MH/DD is a peer-reviewed interdisciplinary publication covering all mental health aspects of diagnosis, treatment, and community supports for persons with MR/DD. All articles are subject to peer-review by the editorial board.
